Stellantis

Climate Policy Engagement: Stellantis receives a grade of D in InfluenceMap’s assessment of corporate engagement on climate change policy, indicating misalignment with policy to deliver the Paris Agreement.

Forecasted 2030 Production: 52% of Stellantis's light-duty vehicle production in 2030 is forecast to be electric vehicles (49% battery electric vehicles (BEVs), 3% plug-in hybrids, and 0% fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV)). This compares negatively to the IEA’s 1.5°C scenario, which estimates that 66% of all car and van sales must be electric (BEV, PHEV or FCEV) by 2030 to meet a 1.5°C global temperature goal.

Stellantis

Climate Lobbying Overview: Stellantis has mostly negative, with some positive engagement with climate legislation in the US, UK and EU in 2022-24. The company has advocated to weaken GHG emissions standards in the US, opposed the US corporate fuel economy (CAFE) standards and promoted a long term role for ICE powered vehicles. However Stellantis also supported the Advanced Clean Cars II proposal in California and is generally supportive of financial incentives for the production of electric vehicles.

Internal decarbonization targets: In March 2022, Stellantis announced its Dare Forward 2030 plan, which commits the company to reaching net-zero emissions by 2038, with a 50% reduction by 2030. It also set a target of 100% of sales in Europe and 50% of sales in the United States to be battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2030. This includes more than 75 BEV models, and aims to reach global annual BEV sales of five million vehicles by 2030. In December 2022, Stellantis announced efforts to develop programs to retrofit existing ICE vehicles into full BEVs, expecting to launch the program in 2024.

Fleet Composition by Vehicle Technology

Number of vehicles produced by all worldwide

Stellantis's forecasted fleet composition by technology: The IEA determined in its 2023 1.5C road transport scenario that 66% of all light-duty vehicle sales must be electric (battery electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids) by 2030 to meet the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal. Globally, Stellantis’s 2030 production forecast is misaligned with the IEA’s scenario. In 2030, Stellantis is forecast to produce 52% electric vehicles (49% BEVs, 3% PHEVs and 0% FCEV), 22% ICE-powered hybrids and 26% combustion engine.

Fleet Composition by Vehicle Type

Percentage ZEV and PHEVs all produced worldwide

Stellantis's forecasted vehicle size: Larger vehicles are a significant cause of increased GHG emissions from road transport, with smaller vehicles across different technologies generally producing fewer emissions. Stellantis’s 2023 combined percentage proportion of SUVs and light commercial vehicles is approximately 63%, however this proportion is projected to increase to 75% through 2030.

Electric Vehicle Production

Percentage of electric vehicles (battery, fuel cell and plug-in hybrid) produced from total fleet

Stellantis's electric vehicle production compared: 53% of Stellantis’s vehicles produced in 2030 are forecast to be electric (battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids or fuel cell electric vehicles), compared to an average of 53% for all automakers.
